Keeping a perfect skin can be a very tedious task especially for the face as it is always exposed to the elements and is greatly affected by environmental factors as well as pollution. People who regularly work outside often experience a variety of problems to their facial skin ranging from a very simple itchy patch to some very serious infections. Most of these problems can be classified as-

Acne vulgaris- most commonly known as acne, it is a skin condition caused by hormonal imbalances affecting the sebaceous gland and the hair follicle. They can range anywhere from simple small red bumps up to severe pustules. It mostly affects areas of skin with a maximum number of sebaceous glands including areas like upper chest, back and most commonly the face.

The most common form of acne treatment is topical application of many available skin creams mostly containing active ingredients like retinoic acid, benzoic acid, Azelaic acid, Alpha-hydroxy acids, Benzoyl peroxide, etc. these creams are often combined with antibiotics to create a more potent treatment.

Sunburn- it is a burn to the skin tissue due to overexposure to ultraviolet light commonly caused by prolonged exposure to sun. The usual condition can range from a simple reddening of the skin up to severe burns. It is believed that prolonged solar exposure can also cause type I cell-death resulting in melanomas.

The most common and available treatments for sunburn are dependent on the fact that how severe the burn actually is, for a mild burn application of topical Aloe based creams and using medication like aspirin may just be enough. But, far more serious case of sunburn, cold compresses with equal parts of milk and water or even with Burow solution can be very beneficial. But you must always remember to stay out of the sea after getting sunburn.

Common skin rashes- there can be a wide variety of skin rashes also associated with facial itching like a contact dermatitis, insect bites and even irritation caused by environmental factors.

Most common skin rashes cannot be treated at home as for most of them; their cause is almost always unknown. But, for simple insect bites or just to relieve irritation application of calamine lotion can be useful. If the condition still persists after a couple of days it is best to consult a physician or a dermatologist.

Allergic reactions- a person can also have severe allergic reactions to any medication, skin cream and even food creating rashes or a hives in the facial region.

For any allergic reaction that immediate treatment should be administration of antihistamines followed by consultation with a registered physician, as allergic reactions can be life-threatening.
